The French mindset has been a revolutionary one for a while.
When dissatisfied with a system, we love to topple it down, and to raise an entirely new (better, of course) system out of the ashes.
So when French people are disappointed with their elites, they try and change their sourcing.
And since we love schools, the solution is usually to create a new one.
Louis XV created the first grandes écoles (which had way cooler names back then), the French Revolution led to the creation of even more (which are better at having cool names), and the end of World War II birthed ENA and SciencesPo (which name coolness you are free to judge).
And now, it seems that ENA’s time has come to an end.
So what was wrong this time?
Given Emmanuel Macron’s response and the specifications of the new substitute, many blame a lack of practical experience from graduates.
As a grande école incubateur, we are quite familiar with prestigious graduates still proving their worth through blood, sweat, and tears (and being increasingly many to do so).
The idea of empirical meritocracy is not a new one for us, is it finally the time to spread it everywhere?
